it takes a village.....
The traditional African proverb - 'It takes a village to raise a child' has been widely quoted and epitomises the importance of the role of the wider community in raising children. The larger socio economic system in which family and child are embedded can influence family functioning, child development and the availability of resources such as access to adequate housing, health and education.
For many families in Cambodia however - they have no 'village'....
Although Cambodia has seen remarkable economic growth in recent years, there are still major disparities in access to basic social services, which have a huge impact in the survival and growth of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children. Poverty isn’t the result of a single root cause. In Cambodia, the issue is complex and is a result of an interplay of a deep dark history of genocide, social, political and economic obstacles. The families we work with are from highly impoverished communities and face daily survival challenges with most earning under $2.00 per day. This puts enormous pressure on the girls supported through our Girls Education Program.
We want a world where all girls have access to education and where no girl has to leave school and work to ensure their family's survival.

that is why we want to create an 'online' global village development model!
We are inviting you to partner with us to create an 'online global village' for the families we work with to support them to overcome the complex causes of poverty with a holistic permanent solution. Each of our families has their own individual story but together we can help all our families become stable and thriving communities and give them the power and dignity to support themselves. Through partnership you can become a part of their 'new story' and join our online global village:
We have developed the 'Families Economic Empowerment Project'. We will commence with a small number of families (10) and work with them to identify their own vision of what a sustainable life could look like for them. What are their talents and gifts? What resources do they have? What would running their own business look like? We want them to feel empowered to think that anything is possible when given the right support structures... the right 'village'..
Each selected family will have a business mentor who will walk with them through this process developing their income generation plan. Whether they want to be a tailor, hairdresser, tuk tuk driver, mechanic, we will help them to create a new and brighter future. This is where we are calling for participants to join with our families and our online Global Village:
how do you join the 'Online Village'?
There are two options:
1. You can support the business development for a family or
2. support some of the costs for their daughters education/health while we are working with them to enhance their livelihoods.
For each family we work with developing their small business we need to raise $1,000. 10 families = $10,000.
